(See also: Holocaust Denial)
We use the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance to help recognise antisemitism. The definition is the entire text, including the examples. We support the definition as it is widely accepted by many governments and organisations. Our CEO, Dr Andre Oboler, serves as an expert member of the Australian Government’s delegation to IHRA and was present when this definition was adopted.
The IHRA definition draws a clear line between antisemitism and criticism of Israel. It explicitly states that “criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic”. We support that. As our work demonstrates, there is also, however, material which which makes use of traditional antisemitic themes, such as blood libels or conspiracies of Jewish power, which some try to pass off as mere “criticism of Israel”. Racism, including antisemitism, should never be used as a political tool or an as a boost for social advocacy.
Our work has made a significant global impact in combating online antisemitism. Further work is urgently needed, and with your support we can make this happen.
