The vile Instagram post directed at indigenous Essendon footballer Courtenay Dempsey is sadly all too common, says the CEO of the Online Hate Prevention Institute.

Police have offered support to Dempsey after the Bomber was allegedly racially vilified on social media after Saturday night’s loss to Richmond.

Dr Andre Oboler told Tom Elliott similar things happened all the time online, but not enough was done to stop it.

“We don’t believe there should be a difference,” Dr Oboler said on 3AW Drive.

“The values of society shouldn’t change, at all, whether you are online or offline.

“And the laws that apply should be the same.

“We need to challenge this and educate people.”
