Update: These positions have now been filled.
The Online Hate Prevention Institute is an Australia Charity that tackles all forms of online hate and extremism. We currently have multiple openings for casual staff to assist us over the summer with a project related to the referendum on The Voice to Parliament.
Successful applicants will review previously saved comments from social media to determine if they include racism, other hate speech, or mis/disinformation about the referendum. Applicants should be familiar enough with the referendum to identify mis/disinformation, and familiar enough with racism in the Australian context to identify when it may be occurring. Familiarity at the level of an informed member of the Australian public is sufficient.
The work is to be carried out remotely (e.g. from home) during January and potentially into early February. Meetings and training will be over Zoom. Some hours will be at required times, other are flexible. Staff will be employed casually and will be paid $32.10 per hour (inclusive a 25% casual loading) plus 11% super. We are looking to employ around 10 to 15 people, each of them for shifts totalling between 30 and 90 hours per person (depending on the staff member’s availability). Applicants need to be at least 18 and have a right to work in Australia. Successful complete of at least one year of either law or criminology would be an advantage. Being able to demonstrate familiarity with the referendum itself would be an advantage.
