On February 1, 2015, Dr Oboler spoke at the Council of Christians and Jews ( Victoria) on the re-emergence of old antisemitism through new media.
The talk looked at how social media was being used to spread afresh traditional forms of antisemitism, such as deicide and blood libel, as well as the spread and promotion of the antisemitic forgery the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.
It is sad that 70 years since the liberation of Auschwitz these conspiracy theories are still doing the rounds. Rather than disappearing, they have been given a new lease of life by social media with its virality and absence of any mandatory regulation.
At the Online Hate Prevention Institute, we fight against the spread of such hate speech.
