A new tool to report and monitor hateful speech on social media will be made available for public use today.

The ‘Fight against Hate’ initiative has been developed by the Online Hate Prevention Institute and will aim to determine and raise awareness of the scale of hate and bigotry online.

There’s a special category for racism against First Nations people.

Dr Andre Oboler from the Online Hate Prevention Institute says they hope to eventually use the information to push social media websites to crack down on the issue.
