The Jewish Independent recently consulted with our CEO Dr Andre Oboler about a worrying trend in Australian attitudes towards the Israel/Palestine conflict. In a questionnaire funded by The Jewish Independent, responders were asked whether they agreed with the statement that “Israel treats the Palestinians like the Nazis treated the Jews”. A third of respondents agreed with this statement, with higher rates of assent amongst younger people. The article cites Oboler who describes the statement as “blatantly antisemitic”, explaining that it is a form of holocaust inversion in which the tragedy faced by Jews in WWII is exploited and used against them.
