ABC’s PM radio show interviewed our CEO Dr Andre Oboler as part of a segment discussion the government’s newly proposed hate speech laws. The segment discusses a caveat in the proposed laws involving those who are “solely quoting religious text for teaching or discussion”. Oboler describes the carve out as reasonable but warns that the use to religious texts to incite hatred within a community is still a possibility. Oboler also discusses the pace at which these new laws are being passed through, and points out that these laws should have been introduced two years ago.
