“Beyond lone wolves: collective antisemitism enabled the Bondi massacre” – Article in The Jewish Independent

A new article in The Jewish Independent by Jeremie Bracka draws on the Online Hate Prevention Institute’s work monitoring antisemitism on social media. The article frames the Bondi attack not simply as the act of isolated “lone wolves” but within a broader context of rising antisemitism in Australia. Bracka highlights the contribution of OHPI in documenting the eight-fold rise in online antisemitism since October 7th, 2023, particularly our work identifying racist anti-Zionism, which Bracka argues helps contribute to a climate in which “harm to Jews is more easily recast as political rather than racist”. The article argues that normalised antisemitism like this plays a crucial role in explaining violence towards Jews in Australia.
