During the second quarter of 2024 OHPI published 11 Briefings and 1 newsletter. OHPI was also featured in 8 media articles.
In the second quarter of 2024 the focus on antisemitism continued. Examples of antisemitism that had been gathered for the antisemitism report, and additional examples that continued to be captured, were used to compile 9 briefings covering various antisemitic tropes and themes. 2 other briefings were published covering anti-LGBTQIA+ hate in response to pride month and changes to the LGBTQ policies of the United Methodist Church.
At the start of May, thanks to the Commonwealth Government’s Living Safe Together grants program, OHPI was able to employ and train 3 analysts from across Australia. This team was established for the purpose of engaging with communities to promote unity and to develop and deliver training for the community on responding to online hate to be deployed later in the year.
OHPI was privileged to be a part of several notable meetings, nationally and abroad. These include briefing Australia’s Attorney General Mark Dreyfus, meeting with the U.S. Deputy Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, and attending the European Conference of Public Prosecution Services on Antisemitism at The Hague.
Throughout the second quarter of 2024, in partnership with Belgium’s Online Hate Task Force, work continued on the Moment Project, finalising details on the anti-Muslim hate and anti-Arab racism report following the October 7 attack in Israel.
