Our submissions and reports further our goal to promote the prevention of harm through education, research, and by stimulating debate around the prevention of harm from online hate. They also directly assist government in preventing harm and are one of our other activities that promote the prevention or control of online hate that causes emotional abuse, physical abuse, self-harm and suicide.
International Engagement
OHPI’s CEO served as a member of the Australian Government’s delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance and on IHRA’s Committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial.
Australia adopted the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism and, building on OHPI’s work, committed to calling out antisemitism online, facilitating public reporting to online service providers and encouraging public engagement in this process.
The CEO also co-chaired the steering committee of the IEEE Computer Society’s online Tech Forum on Social Media and Societal Harms, and accepted an invitation from the Russian Jewish Congress to give presentations at a major conference on antisemitism held in Moscow.
Reports
OHPI produced a report on the terrorist attack in Buffalo, New York, which documented OHPI’s work in removing violent content related to the attack.
In partnership with Meta and the Australian Human Rights Commission, a major report on Anti-Asian Hate was produced. The report was published after the end of this reporting period.
