OHPI 2024 Review

Unfortunately it has been a busy year for OHPI. During the year OHPI published 48 briefings and 3 in-depth reports. Additionally OHPI has appeared in 17 media articles. To accomplish this, OHPI has employed new analysts and trained them in recognising online hate, data capturing, and report writing.

To engage communities in the fight against online hate OHPI has developed and launched a basic training program to help people recognise online hate and respond appropriately. An advanced training program has also been developed to teach those who are interested to search for and catalog online hate, and how to write up a manifest of hate. This training will be launching in the first quarter of 2025.

Due to a rapid increase in online incidents this year, a significant focus has been given to antisemitism and anti-Muslim hate. This is as a result of the October 7 2023 terrorist attack in Israel and the subsequent conflict. Of the 48 briefings published during 2024, 29 focused on antisemitism, and 4 on anti-Muslim hate. The 3 reports covered details of increased antisemitism and anti-Muslim hate following the October 7 attack

During the first quarter of 2024 OHPI Focused on preparing reports comparing the frequency of antisemitic posts on social media before and after the October 2023 terrorist attack in Israel. During this time OHPI was featured 8 times by various media outlets and published 11 briefings on online hate.
